Civil War Era Dome Top Steamer Trunk
Ca. 1870

This is a very hard to find Early, Civil War Era dome top steamer trunk. The original leather covering on this trunk has been removed to expose the beautiful hardwood. Wood of this age is hard to describe as it is over 100 years old. You have to see it to really appreciate the depth of color in the wood, but I think the pictures capture quite a bit of it. The accent metal banding is original and covers the front and top of this Civil War Era trunk. The lock mechanism is original but unfortunately we do not have the key. The trunk has been restored and has been stained in the rich color of "early American" by Minwax and then sealed the trunk with numerous applications of Tung Oil. All the hardware is Original including the rolling feet on the bottom of the trunk and the unique document holder attached to the lid of the inside of the trunk and the tray. In respect the wonderful document holder, it is original to the trunk as well as some of the design elements, I could not save all of it but I feel enough was preserved to give you the feel this trunk deserves. We had to replace the front leather closing straps, the leather handles, the leather trunk top lift, and the hinges on the back of the trunk. This trunk now is ready to take on another 100 years and be a wonderful addition to your unique antiques. Ca. 1870 Dimensions 29"L X 18"W X 20"H
