This is a very hard to find Civil War Era Camelback steamer trunk

This incredible shape of the top of this trunk is the reason, that some dome top trunks are called 'Camelback' trunks. The top wood has been steamed and formed into this incredible shape which is VERY RARE. The original paper covering on this trunk has been removed to expose the beautiful hardwood. Wood of this age is hard to describe as it is almost 150 years old. You have to see it to really appreciate the depth of color in the wood, but I think the pictures capture quite a bit of it. The accent metal banding is original as well as the hardware and lock. (we do not have a key) The trunk has been refinished with a natural clear finish to reveal the wonderful Honey gold pine finish, and the slats have been colored to a dark, ebony color. The hardware has been hand painted in gold and black. The trunk exterior has a beautiful satin finish which is multiple coats of varnish followed with multiple coats of hand rubbed beeswax .The interior and bottom have been treated with beeswax and lemon oil. It is simply gorgeous! We replaced the leather handles and handle end caps. This trunk now is ready to take on another 100 years and be a wonderful addition to your unique antiques. Ca. 1860's Dimensions 35"L X 20"W X 25"H
