Tool Set # 1

Tool Set # 1
The hammer is a double headed type which is useful for any size nail or if you don’t want to be bothered with which side you are on and you can just nail away. (That’s why I like it!) The nail punch is a larger diameter (easier to see) to punch out the nails once the heads are nipped off, and the 'Dolly' has 2 useful edges, and fits into your hand very nicely or between your index and middle finger as I like to hold this one. A good set of Nippers is essential for any trunk restoration. To remove the nails that have been turned into the wood, you must pry them gently loose with either a nail head pry or a screw driver, then nip the heads off and punch them back through the wood. Otherwise, you break and tear the wood up, and like my first trunk so long ago, you spend hours and even days repairing, gluing, and filling holes, splits, and cracks in the wood which can be avoided. These are included in the tool sets above. Another essential is a good scraper.  I have used various widths of scrappers and I always go back to this size, it always works for me and is easy to get into all the tight spaces and doesn’t snag as much on the rough wood.  Most trunks are lined with paper, and usually the paper comes off easily with a solution of soapy hot water, and a considerable amount of elbow grease.  This will make your work easier, and is a necessary tool. Unfortunately, sometimes some HORRIBLE material has been glued to the trunk so it will withstand anything short of Natural Disaster, and possibly even that. These require stripper, and again a good scraper, without one of these, it will be nearly impossible to clean your trunk.

Tool Set # 2
This set has the hammer that features a single head type and with a wedge edge on the other side, this is very useful for nailing in tight spaces like handle covers. The nail punch is a medium diameter to punch out nails (which again makes it easier to see) once the heads are nipped off, and the 'Dolly' has 2 useful edges, with a good middle grip which fits in your hand nicely. A good set of Nippers is essential for any trunk restoration. To remove the nails that have been turned into the wood, you must pry them gently loose with either a nail head pry or a screw driver, then nip the heads off and punch them back through the wood. Tool Set # 3

Tool Set # 3
This set features a hammer with a single head type and a pick type edge on the other side which is useful for tapping out a pattern for nail holes when you are replacing metal. (This can become a large project when you have to pre-drill holes for your nails to replace banding or metal, not a good project to start on unless you have experience)  The nail punch is a small diameter (for those of you with good eyes) to use on nails once the heads are nipped off, and the 'Dolly' has 2 useful edges, and is small and easy to maneuver in tight places. A good set of Nippers is essential for any trunk restoration. To remove the nails that have been turned into the wood, you must pry them gently loose with either a nail head pry or a screw driver, then nip the heads off and punch them back through the wood. Specialized Metal Dolly

This 'Dolly' is a Very useful item when straightening metal, and also for general use of turning nails. It can be a little large to get in tight spaces, however I have been known to use the edge and we have found that it is a great all around tool.  We include this because it is always better to have a few of these laying around because I am constantly looking for one.
