Dome Top 'Camelback' Trunk
Black metal covered with wooden slats and ornamental metal attachments

Here is a beautiful camel back trunk. I call this a "camel back" because the rounded top is higher in the center than the ends. Others may call them a dome top or round top trunk. The smooth metal exterior and all the fancy metal trim and hardware are complete and original. The hardwood slats have beautiful wood grain and are refinished with a tung oil finish. The metal is all in great shape with no major damage except that of which you would expect from a used 100 year old trunk. The trunk latch is a beautiful solid brass lock which was popular on better made trunks it dates to about the 1870 - 1895 (no key), I do not know if the lock is original since 2 smaller holes are under the latch indicating that it may have had a different lock on at one point. This one is a great size measuring 30" inches in length, 17" inches wide and 20" inches tall (this measurement is from the side of the trunk and does not include the 3"inch rise to the "dome"). The leather handles are replacements to give the trunk another 100 years of use. The metal bottom is very clean, repainted, and has the original wood slats and metal rollers. The interior has been refinished and can be used to store many items, or the trunk is great for display. The trunk was probably made in the late 1880's to 1890's
