One of our All Time Favorite Trunks!

This is a Rare unusual flat top with wonderful Saratoga Grade hardware.  This one comes with a beautiful interior Unique Shape tray with lid, and with its original decorative paper borders.  Just look at the pictures! The inside of the lid and the top of this enclosed tray are original and  are quite visually stunning.  The lid has a lift / lock system that holds the tray in the lid when the top of the trunk is open for easy access to the bottom section of this trunk. This trunk has nice hardwood slats to protect the body of this trunk and on every end of these beautiful hardwood slats are decorative high quality cast iron end caps, (not stamped steel) corners and handle caps, some are embossed with initials and others such as the handle caps are just decorative.  This is truly a example of the high end quality of trunks of its day. The slight use of tin on the corners is all original and in very good shape.  This trunk originally was covered in canvas but we have taken all of the worn material off to reveal the beautiful wood of this trunk. The lock on this does work and we do have 2 keys.  We do not think this is the original lock but is similar based upon the original placement of the lock. This is a wonderful example of a large Saratoga Grade trunk and it is a LARGE trunk.  We date this trunk to be in the 1890's.   The interior is clean and has been sanded smooth with no odors and can be used to store many items, sit at the end of a bed, or the trunk is great for display in a foyer under a piece of your art.  Dimensions 34"L X 21"W X 24"H
