We consider this a
Saratoga grade due to the high quality of construction and the amount
and quality of the decorative hardware on the trunk. This would have
been an expensive trunk owned by a well to do individual. This is a
Rare trunk as we have not seen another trunk like this with the amount
of decorative hardware that this one has. Originally this trunk had
straps, and it still has the high quality metal strap corners,
although we have left the straps off for convenience of access to the
interior. The oak slats compliment the wonderful solid pine wood which
has been stained to a rich honey pine Patina. This Trunk really
showcases the superb construction by the master craftsmen of the time.
This trunk has been professionally restored trunk at Legacy Trunks,
and is very strong and solid. The interior has been stripped to
eliminate any musty odor, then cleaned inside and out, hand-sanded,
and finished with multiple hand rubbed layers of Beeswax, and Lemon
oil. The exterior has been stained, sealed, and had multiple coats of
high quality varnish applied followed with several coats of hand
rubbed beeswax. Black and Gold paint was used on the outside metal
trim, all latches, and corner trim. It comes with it's original lock.
This trunk is in very good condition except for some normal wear and
signs of age. Once again, The color is rich! The hardware is original.
This chest is very solid and well built and should hold up for another
100 years to continue its Legacy. This would make a Great table,
Coffee table or accent piece for the foot of a bed.
The trunk measures
36 inches long , 21 inches wide, 24 and inches tall. |
