Flat Top highly decorative Antique Berman's
‘Indestructible’ Brand Trunk |
Here is an
Exceptionally Beautiful American Wooden Flat Top Travel Trunk from the
late 19th Century. This Berman's brand Indestructible trunk which was
originally made in Los Angeles, California is a beauty. This trunk was
originally covered in a canvas which was impregnated with a Black
Vulcanized material. We removed the covering, and exposed the wood which
has incredible wood grain. The mahogany color wood is a custom mixed color
and the trunk is accented with banding which we colored in a lighter brown
which gives it a Leather look. The trunk also has very nice decorative
hardware which we left in the original aged patina that can only be
acheived with time. It has substantial drawbolt/latches with lid lift,
bullet catches, and a great lock with lid lift latch. The trunk was then
finished with several coats of high quality Varnish and multiple coats of
hand rubbed beeswax.. This Trunk really showcases the superb construction
by the master craftsmen of the time. This trunk has been refinished at
LegacyTrunks.com, and is very strong and solid. The interior has been
stripped to eliminate any musty odor, then cleaned, hand-sanded, and
finished with mahogany colored stain (custom mixed color) multiple hand
rubbed layers of Beeswax, and Lemon oil. Gold Metallic finish was used on
the outside metal trim, latches, Lock and corner trim and then sealer with
a clear coat. The leather handles have been replaced with new reproduction
type handles. It comes with a solid lock, but unfortunately we do not have
a key. This trunk is in very good condition except for some normal wear
and signs of age. Once again, The color is rich! The hardware is original.
This chest is very solid and well built and should hold up for another 100
years to continue its Legacy. This would make a Great table, Coffee table
or accent piece for the foot of a bed.
The box measures 33 inches long, 20 inches deep, 23 and inches tall.
