This is a beautiful medium sized flat top trunk.  These smaller trunks are hard to find as not many were made and fewer have survived through the years. I don't refinish too many trunks this size, but this one I couldn't pass it up because it is just a slightly smaller version of the large flat tops we sell so often.  We stripped the paper covering this trunk had on its main body to expose the beautiful wood underneath. The hardwood slats made of oak have beautiful wood grain, and on the top edge of the front slat you will see that it has some pretty good notches that someone put in it along the way which just gives this trunk more character. The metal is all in good shape with only the wear and tear you expect from a trunk that has been around for about 100 years. The leather handles are replacements to look like the originals, but the end caps are original.  The wooden bottom is very clean and is ready for use. With its compact size, its present day uses are many. The lock style indicates that this was probably built around 1890 - 1930. The lock mechanism is original but unfortunately we do not have the key.    This trunk is now ready to go to your home to be a wonderful conversation piece or it is a great size for a coffee table or end table.
