This is a beautiful
Immigrant Trunk double European Locks in Original look. This trunk is
made of solid pine and the patina is rich due to the age. The unusual
double locks on this trunk are also unique and were only made for a
few years and date back to the 1870's. The original top lock flaps
were missing, which is common to these trunks, and we installed
leather lid lifts in their place which looks nice, and functions very
well. What is rare is to have the canvas and banding intact, and in
this trunk's case, the canvas, is mostly there. There are a few
expected areas of wear in the canvas covering, and some very small
pieces of loss, but it only adds to the aged character of this trunk.
We were able to clean the main body of the canvas to a nice look, and
just color wash the original striping to revive it's original beauty.
Fortunately we were able to save the original owners stylish initials
on the top of the trunk 'H. B." and we feel they make this one special
indeed. The Trunk comes with it's original tray, which is in expected
condition and with the exception of a small tear in the fabric, is
good. It can easily be recovered in your favorite fabric choice. We sanded, and stained the wood slats in the original 'Honey'
colored oak color and they look wonderfully aged. When we finished, we
coated the trunk with a top clear coat to protect it all. The interior
has been stained a 'Honey' color stain to compliment the trunk overall
finish, and it is simply wonderful. The handles are original and a
rare style, so we did not change them. Please note that these handles
are very unique and I rarely see them on a trunk. It is of great size
measuring 39"L X 23" W X 21"H. This would make a great conversation
piece in anyone's home and provide quite a bit of storage as well.
