Here is a beautiful
Camel Back Saratoga grade trunk. I call this a "Saratoga grade"
because of the much higher grade of construction and better and more
decorative hardware which is indicative of a more expensive trunk. The
smooth metal exterior and all the fancy metal trim and hardware are
complete and original. The hardwood slats have nice wood grain and are
refinished with a beautiful 'honey pine color' finish and high quality
varnish followed with hand rubbed wax. The metal is all in great shape
with no major damage except that of which you would expect from a used
100 year old trunk. The main body metal, slat clamps, and handle ends
have a great aged patina which resembles aged bronze, and we liked it
so much we did not repaint it, we only re-coated it with a clear coat
to protect it. We painted the rest of the trunk metal Black with Gold
metal accents. This trunk is a great size measuring 30" inches in
length, 18" inches wide and 24" inches tall (this measurement is to
the top of the dome). The leather handles are replacements to give the
trunk another 100 years of use. The metal bottom is very clean,
repainted, and has the original wood slats and new brass bump feet.
The interior has been refinished and coated with a good beeswax / oil
finish and can be used to store many items, or the trunk is great for
display.
The trunk dates from the 1870's to 1890's. |
